4 Window Cleaning Tips in Winter

Cleaning your windows while it’s freezing outside doesn’t exactly sound like a good time. You’ll have to, however, if you want to let in more natural light, enjoy that winter vista and keep up with your chores. Fortunately, Sunco Window Cleaning, your expert in window and roof cleaning, has the following tips to make the task stress-free:

1. Gather the necessary supplies. First things first—assemble the items that will help you remove the snow and ice sticking to your windows. To shovel snow off the sill, use a garden spade. You can also melt any ice around from the panes with cold water. As for the actual cleaning, use a sea sponge to wipe the window glass. This item can hold a great amount of cleaning solution while being porous enough to remove more deep-seated spots on the glass surface.

2. Keep yourself safe. Keeping your windows spotless in the cold season may not be as complicated as gutter cleaning, but it still requires the necessary safety practices. For instance, if you’ll be needing a ladder to wash your outside windows, check that is secure and free from ice to prevent slips. Have someone hold the ladder as you do the task—all that movement can make it a tad unsteady, after all.

3. Never use hot water for cleaning windows. Placing a hot water solution on your window may cause the glass to crack. Avoid glass replacement costs (and the ensuring headache) by using cold or room temperature water instead.

4. Know your window cleaning solution. A mixture of rubbing alcohol and vinegar is already good enough. It can break up dirt while preventing water spots and stop the water from freezing. There are solutions that includes antifreeze—only it’s not very friendly to the environment and may even negatively affect the plants below your windows.
